Turns Smoking Can Cause Mental Disorders!
A scientific analysis published in the journal Lancet Psychiatry revealed that smokers were three times higher psychosis (mental disorders lost contact with reality such as schizophrenia and bipolar disorder) when compared with non-smokers. This analysis was obtained after scientists from King's College London examined 61 observations involving 15,000 smokers and 273,000 nonsmokers.
The analysis shows that 57% of people who experienced a first episode of psychosis were smokers. Psychotic disorders are also found growing about a year before symptoms actually seen in those who smoked daily (heavy smokers). It is like a physical illness with an incubation period of one year before the disease germ actually appear.
This study complements previous findings by the Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, who found that people with severe mental illnesses such as schizophrenia or bipolar disorder have a higher risk for abusing substances harmful to health such as cigarettes, alcohol, and marijuana. The reason these objects by pengidapnya considered against discomfort due to drug side effects and the anxiety that are commonly arises in patients with psychiatric disorders.
Regarding the analysis that says that smoking may increase the risk of mental disorders, Robin Murray, professor at the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology and Neuroscience King's College London said, "Cigarettes and psychosis is like a vicious circle. Smoking can trigger the condition of psychotic disorders, people with psychotic disorders tend to be smokers ,
Long-term studies are needed to investigate the direct relationship between smoking every day, sporadic smoking, nicotine dependence and the risk of developing psychotic disorders. However, a signal that smoking is more dangerous than we know so far should be a driving force for the government and all members of the community to continue to campaign for a healthier lifestyle away from cigarettes.
